Welcome to CowarDice! A dice-rolling roguelike where your teammates can't be trusted. Build your party carefully and let the dice fall where they may... How many enemies can you take down before your dice come up snakeeyes?

Made in 7 days for the Brackeys 2026.2 game jam, with a theme of "Trust No One".

How to Play:

Most of the game is driven by the mouse, but 'm' will toggle BGM mute if desired.

You start by assembling your party from the available mercenaries. It's recommended to hire as many adventurers as you can, since in this initial prototype they don't require salary payments, but you can essentially adjust the difficulty by attempting to take fewer adventurers.

Once in battle, your party will appear on the bottom of the screen and the enemies on the top. Below each enemy you will see their intended action for their turn, and the red line denotes which of your allies they plan to attack.  Each of your heroes will have one die that they can roll, and special attacks are driven with poker/Yahtzee "hands". You have 2 rerolls per turn and individual dice can be locked and unlocked by clicking on them. Clicking on enemies and allies will target them, and you'll have one enemy and one ally targeted at all times.

Attacks:

  • Basic Attack (Always Available):
    • Takes the total of the top 5 dice (negatives will subtract)
      • e.g. (3,2,0,-1,-2) will score 3 + 2 -1 -2 for a total of 2
  • Three of a Kind:
    • Will treat the matched values as positive if they were negative, will ignore negative values for the remaining 2 dice if they're the next highest
      • e.g. (-2,-2,-2, 1, 0) will score 7
      • (2,2,2, -1, -1) will score 6
  • Four of a Kind
    • Treats the matched values as positive if they were negative, will also treat the remaining dice as positive if it was negative
      • e.g. (-1,-1,-1,-1,-2) will score 6
  • Small Straight ( 4 in a row e.g. 0,0,1,2,3):
    • Deals a small amount of damage and retreats your selected ally. The retreated ally will return at the beginning of the next battle. Useful if an ally is on the brink of defeat or is being targeted by multiple high-damage attacks.
  • Large Straight (5 in a row e.g. -2,-1,0,1,2):
    • Deals a moderate amount of damage and gives you a bonus attack before enemies get to attack (You cannot score another large straight on your bonus turn)
  • Full House (3+ of one kind, 2+ of another e.g. 0,0,0,-1,-1):
    • Deals a small amount of damage and heals your entire party for a small amount
  • Five of a Kind:
    • The ultimate attack! Deals a large amount of damage to all enemies
